To help better you experience, here are some answers to commonly asked questions when preparing your files:
- SMALL BLACK TYPE: Small black type should overprint and be 100% black instead of 4-color black (i.e., 99% black will knockout and should be changed to 100% black for best results).
- RESOLUTION: Images should be at least 225 to 300 dpi. Lower resolution images could appear pixillated, blocky or fuzzy.
- PDFs: We need high resolution PDFs with fonts embedded. Most programs have P DF export settings called PDF/X-1 that will work well when creating PDFs for Leading Media. Just make sure the bleed is set to 1/8”. The exported page will be at least 1/4" inch bigger than the final trim size which will include bleeds; i.e., a job that prints at 8.375" x 10.875" should be sent to us as 8.625" x 11.125".
- RICH BLACK: Large solid areas of black should be made into a rich black (4-color black). We recommend using the CMYK values of 50/40/40/100.
- MAIL PANELS: To be current with postal regulations, check with us before submitting your job. We have our own indicia/permit if we are mailing your job.
- PERFECT BOUND: If your job is to be perfect bound, the spine width will need to be calculated based on paper type and total page count. The inside cover spread will need to have the center spine area knocked out for gluing. Check with us if you are making your own spreads for the correct calculations.
- MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF THE SAME PROJECT WITH BLACK PLATE CHANGES: Use the layers palette in your native files to create the different versions. This will ensure that each version will be exactly the same and will prevent misregistration between versions.
